a classic. i will listen to this album till the day i die. listening to red hash is like a warm cocoon of red and purple crystals crystalizing around your tiny tiny bones. windy child, i pick notes from the sky, and looking for june are all tiptop tracks. especially looking for june, that shit is the shit.
everyone should listen to this album from start to finish at least once in their life:
you might be put off by the general heaviness, but within the sludgy drones and deep, long yowls lies something really delicate and beautiful. it's incredibly rewarding and as trite as this may sound, it's like an experience every single time you listen to it. play it on full blast, and make sure you have a good subwoofer for that nice dump dump dump.
this album sums up how all three of us have been feeling lately. so listen to this and think of us fondly. clocking in at around fifteen minutes the album is the perfect chogay music.
but really, in the past week all i have been listening to is:
i don't understand how swervedriver got lumped into the shoegaze scene. sure they have their moments, but their sound is clearly more aggressive (and listenable, especially when you're not stoned) than their peers. anyway, this album is incredibly cohesive, you can listen to it all the way through without skipping a single track. the songs just kind of flow into one another. blowin cool, harry and maggie, and duress are my personal favorites. make sure you listen to it from start to finish, preferably with headphones, and blast this shit. otherwise you just won't enjoy it.
the first time i saw mark kozelek play i was, i don't remember how i old i was, but i went with mina, vicente, and sara, which means i was probably nineteen at the time. we drove up to baltimore to see him play at ottobar, i don't really remember being there because i was so stoned, but what i do remember is yelling at him to play katy's song, and like a good boy he did. we drove home pleased.
anyway, this video goes out to all the sensitive boys and girls... woe woe woe.
williamsburg music hall, august 6, 8pm, $25. buy tixxx
he plays red house painters and sun kil moon shit so even if you're not familiar with his own stuff, come and let's sit in the corner together. shed a tear while you're at it, don't worry i won't tell.
for whatever reason i was walking up eighth avenue and that line came forward. can i get a little nostalgic for a minute? i remember being at their last show at the blackcat, i was a seventeen year old high school drop out that lived for nothing but getting fucked up and going to shows. the show was packed with hot, sweaty pretentious fucks, the very same group of people who i would see at fort reno (dc is a small city, everyone sees, knows, and fucks each other), and i remember convulsing on the floor from excitement and pure adrenaline. and and and when deformative came on, naturally their final song, i remember rushing on stage screaming "i'm 16, driving south from baltimore, what will i say when i get home? i'm in the window, i'm at the door." then there was also the fact that every queer punx had a crush on dan... ah yes, dan.
he's the mean, lean, fighting machine with blood from seoul, and a soul out for blood.
2) kimbob
korean sushi. a little less raw, a lot more flavor! who needs a fuckin california roll?
3) kimchi
the most common banchan (side dish) of korean food, kimchi is tasty, healthy, and great for the digestive tract!
4) kim jong il....not!
stop throwing missiles at us with creepy victory songs!!!
5) kunjip
okay, so we really love korean food, but have you had it? it's amazing! everyone shares, the fish pancakes will kill you with satisfaction, and they keep bringing out side dishes like those unbearably cute pickled radishes. and it's in the heart of koreatown, which is like a slice of the homeland right here in nyc
6) margaret cho
she's mainly known as a comedian, but this woman really does everything. she directs, writes, has some clothing line, and supports gay rights. 잘 했어요!
7) alexandra nam
our other korean seoul sister and an amazing addition to the design community of new york. she's gone for a bit this summer, but her return will be celebrated, there's no doubt of that.
8) never forever
james loves this film about a woman who must seek another man's seed when her husband can't sire her child.
9) the words "chamgee" and "chogay"
you have to be korean or ask us what these words mean.
10) k-pop!
and remember, koreatown is just a walk, car, or train away at 34th bet 5th and 6th!
yesterday i was sitting at pianos, slowly sipping on my frozen margarita by the window, and i almost choked on a chunk of ice when i found out that polvo will be playing at south street seaport, for FREE. i am beyond thrilled. expect to see me there with a corona in one hand and a blunt in the other. let's get together and ride through all the sharps and flats with the occasional gong going boom boom boom.
a.r. kane was heavily underrated during their time. too bad cause a love from outer space, pop, down, and supervixens are all sexellent tracks that deserved to be listened to while fucking. avail yerself!
a lot of people say swirlies remind them of my bloody valentine, but that's a pile of shit. download blonder tongue audio baton, now. listen to vigilant always, pancake, and jeremy parker immediately.
